When the owners of the Black Bull decided to sell up, the community took the opportunity to purchase the pub themselves; rather than see it sold to private investors and re-developed into residential accommodation.
The Swan, Banton
For 170 years, the Swan pub has been at the heart of the Banton village community. However by 2016, the pub had fallen into disrepair and was at imminent risk of demolition.

The Isle of Eigg Brewery will become the first in Scotland to be wholly owned as a community benefit society. Their share offer in late 2020 raised almost £200,000, surpassing its minimum target with weeks to spare.

On the 16th of April 2016, GlenWyvis Community Benefit Society launched its community share offer to raise £1.5m to build the world’s first distillery to be wholly powered by renewable energy and 100% community owned.
