Sunart Community Hydro - Share Offer Launched Today! 3rd October 2014

29th Jul 2016

Community Shares Scotland are thrilled to support Sunart Community Renewables who are launching their share offer today for their community-run micro hydroelectric scheme on the Allt nan Cailleach burn. Approximately 1.5 km north of Strontian, it will generate revenue for the local community, in due course, by selling hydro-electricity to the national grid.

"We are excited about this opportunity to raise money for a community owned project which will bring in regular income for our community as well as contribute to the drive for more renewable energy" Dale Meegan, Project Manager.

The share offer will be launched on today Friday 3rd October at Strontian Village Hall by the MSP, Dave Thompson and supported by representatives form Community Shares Scotland. Trail West – the Scottish Dance Band of 2013 – are providing the backdrop to what promises to be an exciting and fun evening.  “I am delighted to support this ‘first’ for Lochaber. Community shares are an excellent new way of raising money for a community venture as well as bringing good returns for investors” Dave Thompson MSP.

This Community Share Offer is a first for Sunart and for the newly formed Community Shares Scotland. The programme has offered the community group ongoing best practise advice and support - 'Community Shares Scotland have supported us every step of the way with setting up the appropriate community organisation for making a share offer, marketing and promotions, legal and financial advice and community understanding'
