Pool Together! Govanhill Baths Community Share Offer Launches Today.
Govanhill Baths development enters final phase - with hopes to raise £300k to secure its future.
First Minister and local MSP, Nicola Sturgeon, will launch the share issue at an event today (September 22) in the empty swimming pool in Calder Street.
After 17 years of campaigning, the people of Govanhill are entering the final phase to redevelop their Edwardian Bathhouse and Swimming pools.
To do this, Govanhill Baths Community Trust is hoping to raise £300k from a Community Share issue, allowing people to invest in the future of The Baths.
Community Shares are a way for people to fund and run local projects together through the creation of a Community Benefit Society. Shareholders have a direct say in the running and the future of the project. This initiative is crucial to the future of the project. Most of the funding is in place to start the rebuild next year, but the final £300k, from the community, is needed to reach the final goal and bring public swimming back to Govanhill.
Starting at 3pm today Friday 22nd September, the launch event will allow people to meet with the Trust and discuss investing in the project.
Alan Walsh, chair of Govanhill Baths Community Trust said: “For many years Govanhill Baths Community Trust have been the custodians for this beloved building. We are now at an exciting moment in the Baths' history where the people can now take them forward to a truly democratic future."
